Writing checks or using your debit card without enough cash in your account can trigger overdraft fees. Overdrafts fees are charged by financial institutions when bank accounts have a negative balance. These fees are expensive. But if you made an honest mistake, you can possibly get your bank to fix or waive this fee.

Visit the bank branch in person. Speaking with a customer representative over the phone may not produce the desirable results. Go to the branch that you frequent and ask to speak with the manager.
- 2
Ask to have the fee waived. Simply asking a manager for a one-time reversal of a bank overdraft fee can work — especially if she recognizes you as a long-term, loyal bank customer and you have other accounts with the bank.

Plead your case. Don’t take no for an answer. Be respectful and polite, but explain your case in order to get the fees fixed or waive.
