When Turkey Raising Turns Foul

Posted by admin Leave Comment »

Twelve-year-old Gifford Sullivan was asked to raise a turkey for his family’s Thanksgiving dinner and … his turkey became a pet. Because of California Health Insurance agent Matt Lockard, the disaster that ensued was not made infinitely worse.

Gifford loved his turkey. No, literally. Gifford loved his turkey. A Sullivan family tradition was to have the eldest child raise a wild turkey that would, at the appointed time, a few days prior to Thanksgiving, be sacrificed as the family’s dinner. “Don’t get too attached to that turkey, Giff,” his mom tried to tell him, but such an admonition was useless. Conflicts Of Interest In Health Care

We all know that there are plenty of conflicts of interest in the health care industry.  Articles that detail the “winners and losers” in health care reform often don’t even mention patients and the American public.  They look instead at industry groups – drug makers, hospitals, health insurance companies, device makers, etc. – and determine how they will fare financially under any given reform.

Hospitals are in business to make money, just like most of the other players in the health care industry.  And hospitals have boards of directors.  We know this, but do we know what they do, or who they are?  Dr. Roy Poses of H

According to the New York Times, the protests will include individuals who have struggled with health insurance companies. Some feel that for-profit insurance companies have greater motivation to reject many individuals whom they consider bad risks. W

1.  It’s important to know that each health insurance carrier has its own underwriting guidelines.  Just because you’ve been declined by one carrier, does not necessarily mean you’ll be declined by all of them.  We can give you an idea – based on your specific health history – of whether you might have better luck with a different carrier.

2.  Cover Colorado is available for most people who have been declined by a private health insurance carrier.  Cover Colorado is the state high risk pool, and has been providing health insurance for people with pre-existing conditions since 1991.   They offer premiu

Senate Shoots Down Bill to Intercept Medicare Pay Cuts

Unsurprisingly, the bill to block pay cuts to Medicare doctors was defeated in the Senate yesterday. This is the bill that would have intercepted the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula that is more or less intended to curb doctors’ rates from climbing too fast.

Both the American Medical Association and the AARP said they were “deeply disappointed,” reports the Wall Street Journal’s health blog.

But, if history is any indication, the proposed 21% cuts won’t go through anyway. Congress usually passes a short-term fix to stop that year’s scheduled cuts. Then does it again the next year and the one after that, but always stops short of scrapping the system altogether.
